Bio sketch

Carole Beaumont (PhD), trained as a chemical engineer in Ecole Nationale de Chimie de Paris. She then became a full time INSERM researcher, until she retired in April 2013. She was a head of a team working on “Iron and heme synthesis, genetics, physiology and pathology”, in Xavier Bichat Medical School in Paris. Since beginning her career, Dr Beaumont has dedicated her research to unraveling the complex molecular network implicated in iron homeostasis and red blood cell formation in mammals, and related genetic disorders.

She is now in charge of the Commission “Science and oceans” at the French association of blue water sailors Sail the World, and is also planning to sail across the Atlantic towards Brazil in January 2015.
